If the linkage is not set properly, it will not engage the shift rod enough to make forward work, but enough to get reverse to work. What you may find helpful is along the side of the mid section, there should be a little rectangle with 2 screws holding it in place. That will come off and just behind it will be the shift rod that goes to the lower unit.

To adjust, loosen the screw on the back side of the shift lever. go to the opening of the mid section and move the linkage down(I believe...I'll check when I get home). Then, move the shift lever back so it clicks into position. Retighten set screw on the back of the lever. Then try moving it forward. If it moves and locks into place, it should be o.k...might have to fuss with it a tad... If anything, mark the rod before you do anything so if you need to get it back to where it was, you can.

Am I correct in assuming this is a pin-drive motor?
