Perhaps I didn't explain it properly- the motor itself is running fine I think the isue might have something to do with the part that engages the shifter in the lower unit it almost sounds like you hit a rock upon take off and if you slowly accelerate it a little throttle at at time it doesnt do it- only if you hit the throttle hard its like a big clunk or a bang not a little one. almost as if the motor is loose on the transom or something- but upon inspection - I found nothing obvious loose
