I have a 2008 DF70. Pushes the boat along very nicely - enough speed for me. It is quiet and does not use much gas. I spent some time doing the same thing you are doing [looking to find out problems, etc.] before buying and could not find much in terms of problems.

I believe they redesigned some of the motors for 2009. I know the DF70, DF80, and DF90 are new. From what I have read, the redesign is a true redesign and not simply a newer featured motor. Not certain what size motor you are looking for.

As someone said previously, there needs to be more dealers - far and away Mercury leads in that area. I live 90 minutes from my dealer so I will likely do most of the maintenance myself. Browns Point Marine is on the east coast [www.brownspoint.com] and advertisers themselves as the complete online Suzuki parts dealers.

With any brand of motor, they are built well enough that they are all good. You definitely cannot go wrong with a Suzuki.

Dave.
