I agree, have asked myself that all the time, i can get a new motor in my SUV for approx $ 5K give or take...........I AGREEEEEEE, WHY??? Why would i have to pay almost $10k for a 100HP boat motor approx (give or take on that $10K)... anyone?


I think if you had to replace the whole engine, transmission and drive train (controls included), you may find a more reasonable price comparison. Replacing a motor in an auto is analogous to replacing a powerhead in an outboard. An outboard is the whole package. But I agree, they are an expensive package.
