We run a Crestliner 1850 and when running lay them backwards across the connector piece of the passenger console. They don't move much if any. Check out Lambeau and Agrimm's video, you'll see how Andy has his rods laid out up front.

I have an 8'6" one-piece that doesn't fit in the locker and just lays on top when we are trailering to and from the lake, but at all other times that rod (and the others) are out on the deck.
