Location: Kodiak, AK | What's your windshield? Glass? Plexiglass? Depending on the curvature of the windshield, you may need to stop drill it. And if you do that wrong, you can ruin the rest of the windshield. Often times that's about as good as you can get, depending on what material we're talking about. I don't know about drilling glass, but plexiglass can get tricky when drilling it. If there's still tension/torsion/shear/compression in the crack, no repair will stop it from continuing until the stress is relieved. If it's plastic, and you know what you're doing, you might be able to plastic weld it and it'll be as strong as ever, but you'd see the "scar" from welding it. It all depends on what it's made of and countours.
The carpet....I dunno. I go look at mine in the morning.
