I bought a 997c side finder before my canada trip. I went into there website to see if I could download a program to convert lowrance waypoints to humminbird waypoints. Before I could get the program I had to register my unit. So I went ahead and registered my unit. In doing so it gives all the things available for your unit. For my unit there was the waypoint software, a planner software update, and a firm ware unit update. I read the frimware update and it sounded good. One enhancement was to be able to record in a new format to watch your recordings on the computer (extremely cool feature by theh way). So I downloaded the frimware update and the conversion program. I loaded the firm ware on the mmc card and went to my unit to load it. It was a simple process and after it said "loading complete" the unit started a normal reboot process. Only this time IT NEVER CAME ON! 3 days before my canada trip no GPS or graph on the dash.... I called them freeking out. They calmed me down had me try a couple things and nothing. She called me back and said I'm overnightings a new unit to you with the shipping label to return the current one. Now that is customer service. The new unit worked prefectly, and I love it.

Not many things impress me about customer serivce and warranty stuff. I would say humminbird and okuma for that matter have awesome customer service.

P.S. do not download any software updates right before a trip. They updated the bad one I downloaded, but I still would not risk it a week before the trip.

My experience.
