Subject: Lowrance GlobalMap 4800 - Feedback/Questions

My Lowrance LCX-17MT seems to be losing it's ability to be a GPS/sonar, and might just be a sonar unit, so I'm looking for alternatives for GPS. However, if I do decide to go with a dedicated GPS, I'm REALLY hoping to get the best bang for my buck. For some reason, though all evidence points to the contrary as to what I SHOULD be doing, I'm hoping to stick with Lowrance. Have any of you used a Lowrance GlobalMap 4800 and if so, what was your feedback? Ease of use and reliability are my two main concerns.

Also, I will be keeping the LCX-17MT on the dash, and the GPS puck will still be on my boat (unless I wrench it off I suppose), so is there a way that if this puck is still working, that I could network the GlobalMap in with the LCX-17? They both say they are NMEA capable.

Thanks for any thoughts or feedback!
