No doubt about it, you need 2 chips.

It is helpful to post when you realize you made a mistake and possibly misled someone.

Southshore, I have been in MN on a fishing trip, replying to this thread wasn't exactly top priority this past week. Hope you can understand that I'm not trying to mislead anyone, including you Southshore. If I'm wrong I'll be glad to admit that I'm wrong, but still haven't exhausted all possibilities yet. I will talk with Capt. Ron some more and see what he says since he said this was possible. Not all the non-HD units have been availiable with the preloaded maps in the past, this is something new with the LCX-27 and other units now. Before it only use to be the HD units with the preloaded maps. I know this because I had an LCX-20 and that did not have any preloaded maps.

However, after checking my units again, I am only seeing the preloaded maps, my mistake, BUT, after talking with someone this weekend about this, he stated he had his two units that don't have preloaded maps on them and he was reading his chip on the bow unit. I'm in the process of trying a couple new things that he had and I don't. Plus, keep in mind, I was told by a Lowrance technician that this is possible, the one guy that would know in my opinion. When the new system came out, meaning the red connectors, this was one feature that users were or are suppose to be able to do. It doesn't make sense if I can network so I can read depths, way points and other things from one unit to another but not the chip. The guy I talked to this weekend said in order to read the chip on the bow while the chip was in the console unit was a real pain in the butt to deal with but he still read the chip on the bow unit none the less.
