Location: Green Bay, WI | I had two--a 130 and then a 200. They are FANTASTIC engines. Go to The Hull Truth forum and do a search in the forum archives...

...you won't find many bad things about them, as the general consensus is that they are bullet-proof. I saw stories on that site of commercial operators with 5000+ hours on them (one even closer to 10000 hours, as I recall!) without significant problems. And the US Coast Guard pretty much buys Honda engines on most of their smaller rigs.
Having said that, I can tell you that they are a bit tubby out of the hole, and don't have the snot of the Verado. The 200 horse unit I had was on an Alumacraft Tournament Pro 185, and it was the max horsepower for the hull--so it did fine, but that's a tank of a hull so it didn't jump onto plane or anything. But the thing ran like a swiss watch, and I hated to sell it. But I was moving to Florida at the time, and it didn't make sense to take an aluminum boat to a salt water environment.
I bought a Tyee 1850 with a Verado last year, only because the rig was already on the dealer's lot and came as a package. I really like the Verado a lot, and it seems to be an incredible engine--but if I would have my choice at the time I would have gotten a Honda.
I am happy with the Verado, but you shouldn't be at all concerned about the Honda in my opinion--as long as it has been properly cared for. But most service shops told me that they simply don't see many problems with Hondas. But go to that site I referenced and check it out. There are over 10000 users on that board, and you can literally spend hours & hours & hours researching stuff in their archives.
