Even if you use that, when you are looking at the screen, the screen will still flip around because when you are stationary, the GPS moves around a small circle. If the GPS error is 20 feet, then that is a circle with a radius of 10 feet and the GPS position will move around that error. This will make the screen in "track up" change around which can be a pain when you are moving slow around. I will go Track up when running out to your spots, and which to North up when you are trolling.

The trail mode only drops a "crumb" on the trail every 3 seconds instead of continuous. This mode is there because older GPS units didn't have many points (memory) to store tracks. The new units have a little more lee way.
