Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | Yup. 12V is 12V, either battery up front will do but NOT both. The only thing you may experience is noise from the trolling motor. Then you would have to try to filter the noise out. Sometimes that's not easy, sometimes it is. All you can do is try it and see what happens.
If you let the batteries really run down, then if you put the motor on hi you might kick the locator off line from the voltage drop, but that's no different than a voltage drop created from starting the big motor if you starting battery is worn down and the locator is connected to it. I have never had that happen to mine though so I think it would be pretty rare.
Either way, your best bet is have the power wires to the locator running directly to the batteries where an inline fuse is directly attached to the terminal. The farther away from the battery you splice in, the less protection you have from noise and voltage drops. |
