Just because the unit turns on does not mean that the gps puck has power. If you look at your power cord you will see two seperate reds and blacks. If you take one red and one black and hook it to a power source the unit will turn on and "gps not responding" will pop up. If you then take the other red/black (which is theoritically the gps power source) and hook just that up, the unit turns on and says the same thing. Only when both of those are connected will the gps work and if one comes loose the gps is the one that looses power.
