I had the same problem. Iwould get the message "GPS Module not Resonding", then I would get "Position Aquired" and it would happen from time to time. Then it got worse and worse to the point where the GPS doesn't work anymore. I even went out and tried a new GPS Puck, but it still didn't work.
Now I have my X17 running as just a Depthfinder and I added a new GPS unit. I never liked the split screen anyway. I would bet on the problem getting worse over time and you will need to take the unit in for repair if you want to keep using the GPS feature.
