The 80's Mariner 2 strokes were made in Japan, but they were Merc designs. Not sure if it was Yamaha or not. There was a lot of technology sharing between Merc and Yamaha back then. Most of the tech knowledge was flowing in Yamaha's direction.

Only the 75-115 HP 4 strokes were yamaha powerheads the last couple years, and that ended 2 years ago. The Midrange, 30-60 HP have been all Merc for several years before that.
