When you drive them as long as I do, it's ok to take that hit on a new vehicle. I've bought 2 new Fords. An 83, and a 97. Just under 500,000 miles. They each paid for themselves a couple times over. Piad #10,600 for the first, and sold it after 14 years for $4200. I expect I'll get about $5000 for the present 97 when I sell it. Now that's resale.
