do you want a casting deck that's close to the water for ease ... or do you want to stay bone dry? ... how many times will you experience x, y and z? .... get a high-sided gunnel front and it's a pain in the butt to work at boatside, but you might be drier in extreme situations ... it's not a perfect world and unfortunately you are not allowed to have your cake and eat it too.

give me a shallow gunnel and close proximity to the water up front any day .... i won't die getting my feet splashed.
