Actually it is NOT a common problem. There were problems with the early models of the VRO pump back in the mid 80's to early 90's. When they re-engineered the product, there were few problems.

Will there be issues with these? Yes...it's a mechanical item and after time, something will give. In some cases it happens fast, and in others it takes years.

If it broke in half, that almost sounds like the part was over-torqued where it mounts... That shouldn't happen, but depending on use, it can take a pounding too. Too many variables to call it a defect, nor am I trying to put blame on the owner either...sometimes things just happen... It's something we all have to accept.

If it's up and going, good deal!! More fishing to be had.
