Good chance you have dirty contacts. It's avoidable, just stow your foot pedal away when travelling. Leaves and sand aren't too kind to those things.

I've never gotten one fixed. Why? The cost to fix them is roughly 5 bucks less than it is for a new one. You get the new one immediately and don't have to wait. That's worth the 5 or so bucks right there.
