As a smokercraft owner I can tell you they offer the best bang for your buck, I can also tell you that mine is a dry ride. Now when we are trolling in 3 or 4 foot waves a bit of spray gets in but the windshield takes care of that. This boat can also go full speed (40mph) over those same weaves staying on top and keeping you dry without losing any rivets. I have been in a Ranger 620 and got soaked in much less waves.

I would recommend a bunk trailler with a bigger boat as they are easyer to drive on, the only use for a roller trailler is if your main launches have very little water. As for a motor try to max it out but if you can't afford it go with 75% power but make sure it's a 4 strokes.
