Subject: 12volt to 24volt

I have a Ranger 681T. When I got the bought it had a 12volt trolling motor on the bow. I recently bought a 24volt trolling motor and was wondering about what guage wire would be the best choice to run. My batteries are in the transom so I have to run wiring the entire length of the boat. Right now, theres 8 gauge wire connecting the batteries to the bow plug in. For that distance and being a 24volt system is the enough? Or would I be better going to a 6 guage or bigger?

I called the MotorGuide hotline and they said for anyhting longer than 20 feet they recommend 6 gauge and I would be alright with 8 gauge in my situation. I called a few boat dealerships also and each one said all they use is 8 gauge.

I jsut wnat to make sure and see what others have to say. Better safe than sorry. Any info or insight woiuld be greatly appreicated.

Thanks,

Mike
