Subject: Screwy universal sonar depth readings

I've got a Terrova 80# US/AP hooked up to LCX25. I will randomly lose my depth reading. Unit reads zero feet. Somtimes disonnecting the universal sonar adapter cable and reconnecting it will get my depth reading back, sometimes it will work after jiggling the sonar plug connector. Any of you guys ever experience this? MInn kota says it might be the transducer and to take it to a service center. It sounds to me like the problem is with the short adapter cable connection. Any way leaving on a fishing trip in 9 days doesn't allow me much time to have service center play around with it. Any info., experiences, advice appreciated.
Thanks
