Subject: Maintenance for extended non-use of outboard

I have a 90HP Mercury two-stroke outboard that has been used very little (less than 10 hours) in the last 18 months. It has been stored in an unheated barn over the winter and not started since last October.

Will it be okay if I simply change the gear lube and fill-up with fresh gas before starting it up and using it like normal? Or, would I be better off having a certified mechanic take a look at it and giving it a “full inspection”?

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Phil
