Subject: bilge pump question

Location: Davenport, IA		My boat came wired for a bilge pump, but has never had one. After 5 years, I've decided it might be a good safety idea. Other than slower flow and not looking pretty, is there any disadvantage to having the hose go over the transom rather than through it?
