Here's my opinions on your post. Look for the ***, that's where I put my comments.

Ok, since I saw in a post that a 2 stroke only lasts 500 hours vs 5000 on a 4 stroke I am really afraid of a 2 stroke now, especially since I do a lot of trolling.

***I'd love to know who started the rumor that after 500 hours, a 2 cycle outboard is shot! Good Lord, look around you and see all of the outboards from the 50's and 60's still on the back of boats.

***Like Steve Worrall said, with proper maintenance, good fuel/oil and winterization, a 2 cycle will still be running long after you're done fishing.

What 4 strokes are the cheapest/most dependable. I like the yamahas but dang they are expensive. Honda is out of the question with their prices. I was planning on a 2 stroke til I heard this..

***Any of the 4 stroke outboards are going to be expensive to buy in comparison to a 2 stroke. What you should look for is a "last year holdover" if you want to get a 4 stroke outboard. You can save yourself several hundred dollars by either looking on the internet or calling marinas and asking for holdover 2001 or possibly even 2000 models.

***But don't buy into that "500 hours and it's shot" theory. That's only 62.5 8 hour fishing days! There's a lot of tournament walleye guys and charter captains running 2 stroke kickers. I don't hear about them replacing their kicker motors twice a year.

***If a 4 stroke is out of your price range, go get a 2 stroke kicker and "Happy Trolling".
