I have owned two Merc 250XS engines and they performed flawlessly. I have also owned a 250 Verado and that was one heck of an engine as well. When I figured out the best combo of prop, engine height and trim range the Verado pushed my Tuffy 2060 consistently to 65+ mph regardless of load when conditions allowed me to open it up.

Here's an image of the speedo, keep in mind this was going upstream. I love speed! Good luck in choosing your next engine there are some great options out there.
