i'd say the biggest thing is most people are just plain BROKE these days. with increased property taxes to make up for tax cuts elsewhere, the increase in gas as well as natural gas and electricity and just about every other life necessity, the dollar gets stretched further and further. i know alot of guys in the contruction trades that have been laid off already for the season and others who know its coming soon.
people i know who would buy new and trade in every 2 or 3 years are now either leasing or driving their "old" vehicles until they HAVE to buy something else....doesnt seem to be as many people buying just because they WANT a new vehicle like there was up until the past couple years. almost everyone i know is pinching pennies these day( probably because i dont know anyone in that upper 1% income bracket!!)

people just cant spend what they dont have
