Subject: Cleaning water spots on motor/ sonar returns

1st one-Is there a general cleaner that one might have around the house to clean off the water spots on the engine/boat? Also, we went out trolling for salmon last night. Friends' boat that he leaves in the water. We had 3 cannon balls down. We seemed to be marking ALOT of small and a few larger fish. Could they be the cannon balls? By leaving the transduce submerged will algea build up causing false readings? If so, how often should he clean it? I doubt it was weeds since we headed down the lake at 28 mph and those should have be blown off. Old boat and I could not see transducer, only the wire going over the back edge. Thanks a bunch.
