One trick I learned, you can test the light system on your trailer without hooking it up to the truck.
Take a 12v battery charger, put the neg clip to ground on the trailer. Take a roofing nail and put it in the pos clip, and touch that to the hot leads in your plug. Your lights should work; if not, the short is in the trailer and you'll know which string to check. m
