Subject: What would be your suggestion for a new trolling motor

I have an Alumcraft boat that is 17'6" and I am wanting to put a new trolling motor on it. My price range would be no higher than $500. I don't want digital steering (some bass fishing friends told me that they won't steer fast enough for the rocky areas we fish?), so I guess a bow mounted foot controlled cabel motor with 55# thrust is where I want to start. I have two Optima batteries on my boat and fish mainly on two ten horse power limit lakes. I want a strong motor, but not sure whether to go with Minnkota (which is what it has now) or go with a Motorguide. I have new 55# thrust Minnkota Maxxum bow mounted tiller type on my jon boat and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Any suggestion? Thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions. Later, MontyK3.
