| the only "big" water i've tested my new 1760 tiller on so far was on Petenwell in May, but the big lake there will whip up as good as anything. we were running 2-3 footers with the occasional rogue big wave (i also think many people tend to exaggerate wave sizes, so take that for what it's worth), bottom line is that in the troughs the waves were taller than the boat.
the real rub is that we were running north-south through waves moving west-east, definitely a less than ideal angle to take them. we caught a bit of spray from the strong wind, and nicely speared one big wave. however, the boat was SOLID, rode the waves smoothly and tracked straight. another nice feature was being able to tighten the tension nob on the Suzuki tiller so that i didn't have to death-grip the handle to keep things in line.
for me, it's all about confidence - knowing you're safe and in control. the 1760 hull gives it to you.
i'll be fishing some of the big waters in MN over the next couple months, so will report back more later. | |
