Location: Lincolnshire, IL | I have a 2000 Triton 189 with a 175 Johnson 2-Stroke and 9.9 kicker(The 2000 model was only rated for 175). I would put it's holeshot up there with any similar boat that I have been in with a full load, Tuffy Ranger, Fisher, Yar Craft etc.....For mine it came down to the correct prop, 5 blade merc prop. I really like this boat for the multi species angler...for me Musky and Walleyes, sits real level to the water for handling fish from the front casting deck and as far as trolling it has lots of room in the back. I think it's a decent ride in real 2 footers(Bay of Green Bay). 3 footers or more everyone is going the same speed anyway. My boat tops out around 52 - 53 GPS with a full load. One thing that I had heard about was the 189 may have been a little big for the single axle trailer on some of the earlier models like mine, but the original owner that had this one ordered it with a dual axle trailer. I was looking last spring and for my price range and what I wanted it came down to 3 models for me, the Ranger 690 or 692 and the Triton 189. I tried them all and went with the 189 basically because it was still a couple $K less than the Rangers for what I felt was pretty much the same boat. Any other questions, just let me know. Oh yeah, Shep was right about one thing...It is a good looking boat LOL. See you tonight Shep. |
