Location: So. Illinois | After putting off the purchase of a trolling motor forever, my wife bought me one for my b-day (she got a great deal on a Minn Kota Maxxum 74lbs as a closeout). I had told her of the advice I had gotten from this web site on how to put a bow-mount motor on my run-about and how to determine the correct size. She found the thread and bought a unit based on the recommendations from people on this board. Below are some before and after pics. I still have a bit of work to do (such as add a pedistal and seat, secure the batteries, do a final adjustment of the motor to ensure it is level and add a bow mount depth finder) but for the most part, the work is done. I purchased 3/4" ply for the floor and motor mount, glassed both, made cutouts to access the storage below and installed reinforced hatch covers that would support a person's weight. Installed a trolling motor plug, batteries and wiring and an on-board charger. Had to buy new a bow light to extend the light above the motor. Took it out yesterday and tested it out. Despite the strong wind, it worked great. I can't wait until the weather warms up a bit so I can actually break her in and do some fishing. Thanks to all who offered their advice.
