I just bought a boat and was looking to put the VMAX HPI 150 on it but my boat has a 25" transom. The VMAX does not come with the longer shaft or at least that is what the dealer told me and from what I saw on the web site of Yamaha. Anyway, I ended up with the 4 stroke 150. But looking at the specs on identical boats from Alumacraft, the VMAX HPDI got better gas mileage than the 4 stoke above 3300 RPM. Not sure who is going to run a 150 at less than 3300 rpm, I know I wasn't so the HPDI looked like the better motor, and at only $168 more than the 4 stroke, who cared. I would have really liked to have the VMAX though.

Go with the HPDI.
