I'm trying to speed up my purchase timeline (first boat purchase) and have "issues" to overcome. I am doing research on used/new boats now and thought I'd shout out to the masses about one issue in particluar. That being.....I DO NOT want a fish 'n ski, even though I have four young kids.

I'm thinking I can get a "fishing only" boat and try aftermarket a tripod type set up on the back deck or use the u-hooks on the transom to pull a tube to make my family happy.

First, is that even recommended for a "fishing only" boat due to what could be improper stress on the hull, deck, etc.?

Assuming it is ok for the boat, what rigs have some of you experienced or seen that work well when set up for occasional rec use? Is aluminum better for this or glass?

Heck, is that thought blasphemy and will I be doomed to musky he!! if I do that?! Am I a bozo for even thinking such things?

Should I just give in, bite the bullet and get a fish 'n ski? Am I right that I think fish 'n skis are cheaper to get into but harder for re-sale?

Any other constructive input out there?
