Location: Green Bay, WI | I am curious how you plan to steer and turn the kicker?
I have decided not to sell my boat but rather to re-rig it a bit, including a kicker. It's a 19' 2" KeyWest 1900CC with a 150 Yamaha 4 stroke. The hull is a bit on the heavy side, but built very stoutly. I am thinking of using it on Green Bay and Lake MI. I spoke to several owners of the 1900CC (in Florida) before buying mine, and most of them took the boat well offshore; one guy routinely fished Wahoo 25 miles out! He had been doing this for several years with his rig. It's a heck of a boat, but I have never taken mine offshore. However I wouldn't have any problem taking it well out into Green Bay or Lake MI.
My kicker problem is that the transom isn't wide enough to put a kicker next to the big motor--so I need to use one of the kicker brackets. I have talked to a couple dealers who both told me that the hull (transom) will take an extra 100 pounds without any difficulty whatsoever, so I was thinking of a 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke. But I don't know what the options are to steer the thing, or to control the power/shifting. Yamaha makes the thing with tilt & trim, etc.--but we are talking $4000 for the big ticket ride. That's versus about $2000 for a tiller model, but if it is mounted on the back of the hull/transom, I don't know how well the tiller will work.
Here's a picture of the back of the hull.
Any opinions?
Thanks.
