Location: Pigeon Forge TN. | I have a Merc 9.9 that I bought new back in 1989, I still don't have quite 100 hours on it yet and it still has the original factory paint and points and plugs in it. When I am trailering the boat I disconnect the fuel line and run the motor till the carb runs out. I have fogged the motor with a little WD 40 in both piston chambers every year and have had no trouble. Still starts within two cranks. We do the same with our rescue boat at the Fire Station.
Older Ford cars were notorious for condensation in the distributor and used to lift the cap and spray WD-40 inside as it displaces water and is non- conductive.
I found good info here too as I didn't know they had a fogging spray for the outboards.
