I would try and go with a minimum of 14 feet and I was amazed at how nice it was to float with an 18 foot boat. also the ideal size with 3 people. If the river is reasonable in terms of width and no sharp bends I would go with longer particularly if you take people with. by yourself a 12 foot boat will be fine
