| Hiya,
Like just about everything with boats, it's a conpramise some way or another.
I went to a console this year after 12 years in a tiller. For longer runs on bigger water, the comfort and lack of left arm fatigue was worth it, not to mention being able to hide behind the windshield.
For trolling, depends on the type of trolling. If it's tight contour trolling, a tiller wins - they are just plain faster to respond wich matters when you are trying to stay off the rocks. For open water, a console does fine. That having been said, I troll with my console, and do just fine. Know several others that do so as well. Just have to stay on your toes...
For St. Clair, my money would be on a console...
Cheers,
