I had an 1988 and that was the first year for a composite transom. If the boat is a very early model it will have a wood transom. Take the serial number and call Ranger and they can tell you. The only other wood will be where you mount and electronics or other equipment. They do such a good job of encapsulating the wood, you should not have any problems. They are really nice boats.
