WAAS uses some ground based towers with known "fixed" positions. It also uses a few special satalites to make mathamatical corrections for geo-positioning and time differentials. The thing to know is that not all areas are covered by WAAS. As more satalites get launched the area covered will increase. The goal of NASA and the US gov. is total WAAS coverage of North America. WAAS will make your unit much more accurate only if the area you are using your unit in is covered by a WAAS signal.
