I second Minnkota. Although I recommend the Maxxum. They're the most reliable trolling motor out there by far.

I've looked in the back of The Motor Clinic her in MN and all they work on are Pinpoints and Motorguides. They rairly see Minnkota's. When they do it's usually a footpedel problem with a powerdrive.

Are you going to use the boat on "electric only" lakes? If that's the case I'd go with a 24V system. If not you can get by with a 12V Minnkota. You ideally want to run the motor at less then 1/2 throttle. Anything over 1/2 and you really start to chew down your battery life. For that size boat, you should be able to run a 36# thrust w/o a problem. But then again, I've never heard anyone complane that they have too much power or too much battery life.
