You can get a Modine type heater with a thermostat and rent a couple of propane tanks to run it pretty reasonable. That's the way that a few of my friends have gone. And, I think you'd be able to save some money in the long run using the propane instead of the kerosene. But, that's a guess.

Also, with the types you mentioned, you may want to check with your insurance carrier. I know they are very picky on wood burners in garages so I'd wonder about the portable types too.

I'd stay away from those hanging type electric garage heaters. They get to be pretty expensive to run.
