Your waypoints will stay on the gps unless you delete them. For instance....if you enter a bunch of waypoints on Cass and the at a later date load the LOTW map, your previous maps will be written over but you way point will remain in the gps memory.

You can create map sets of multiple lakes on your computer and load them at any time. For instance....you could have a map set of Wisconsin lakes with a bunch of lakes on it and another map set of Minnesota lakes. Each time you download a mapset onto the gps it overwrites the previous one. This makes it a good idea to make a mapset that inckudes a good number of lakes.
