Location: Ames, Iowa | Meeting your next boat is like meeting your wife- you just never know when that's going to happen.
I used to fish in a old 16 foot open Lund tiller with a 1975 25Hp Evinrude that I bought in Longville. And I fished everywhere in it- Leech, Moose, lakes in Iowa. Sold it in Iowa for more than I bought it. I found a 16 foot single console Sylvan with a 40hp 1st generation 4 stroke. I have used that boat since 2009 on Leech- just had to be careful, couldn't go out some days. I still have it. A couple years ago I was up in Boy River, MN buying an 8 hp motor for my duck boat. They had a nice 1750 Fishhawk (boat of my dreams) in their lot- not for sale though. Guy there said he'd had an even nicer 1750 in almost new condition on consignment the week before but it was gone. That meant sold to me, but he said the owner took it home to Emily, and that was on the way home. So my wife and I set up a visit and an hour later we fell in love with it at first sight. 1750 Fishhawk, hardly used in 20 years, 115 Suzuki, always in the shed, and the whole thing was mint. Owned by a couple who trailered it two miles to the public access, fished for sunfish, then trailered it home.
Now that I'm retired I have 3 boats- a 14 foot Alumacraft duck boat, the Sylvan-my Iowa boat (my wife's idea BTW)- and my Minnesota boat, the mint Crestliner. I could never afford a new boat, but am thrilled with what I have.
That was never the plan. But remember, your new boat could be found on your next drive down the road. Best of luck!! |
