Doug,
I use a my own carpet cleaner at home with a little carpet cleaner soap and I add little bit of Oxy Clean(follow products procedures). As far as maintaining the boat I clean it at the carwash and use the soap cycle with the scrubber(like a broom with soap coming out of it) then scrub it into the carpeting, then take it over to the vacuum and suck up the soap. On rainy days you can see where you missed because it froths. I like to do this because it gets nice and clean and gets the fish smell out. Another tip, when you're out fishing and dump a soda or coffee on the carpeting, don't scrub it. Just take the lake water and dillute the spot, it disperses it enough so it won't stain. I don't know what the proffesional carpet people would recommend, but this is what I do with no problems.
