Any good grade auto compound will do. Go with a water based compound and keep it wet for fine scratches. If it starts to dry up sprinkle a little water up to finish the Job. I prefer to use the lightest compund possible and work my way in to agressive till I get the scratch out and then back to the finer to polish.
Use a 50% acrylic/50% wool pad for polishing. 100% Wool can burn the clear coat if you go nuts. Of course your a Muskie fisherman so your nuts anyway.
Just kidding

PS: WAX THE AREA AFTER POLISHING.The best U.V gel-coat is one that has not been sanded.
