Subject: 24 volt Motor Questions

I will be up grading my trolling motor set up to a 24v system this spring and I have a couple questions. First off I was running a 30lb 12v motor with a set of batteries in paralel. I will now have these run in series, with the jumper from Battery 1 + to Battery 2 - and the battery leads from the motor to Battery 1 - and Battery 2+. Can someone confirm that this is the correct set up for 24v. The rest of my 12v systems go to only one battery (i.e. locators, pumps and lights, to Battery 1+ and Battery 1-.) I am pretty sure this is correct but just want to make sure.

Secondly I will be adding an onboard charger, and have been told I will need to disconnect the jumper when I charge. Is this also true?? I would think so, but am wondering if this is the case.

Lastly the 12v motor had a plug, and outlet on the front deck. THe power leads were run from the transom to the plug. The new motor will be a 67lb. Do I need to up grade my leads to a higher gauge wire from the batteries to the outlet, and do I need to change the fuse in the battery leads to the outlet on the front deck??
