I started out with a 9.9 Evinrude and any rental boat we could get. I next went to a 12 ft car topper and the same 9.9. As we got older our boats changed many times today it's the biggest Lund that fit in my garage. The point is fish were caught out of any boat I used. I never felt I was putting myself at risk in any boat I owned or rented. If you fish smart and let the weather determine what water to fish you will enjoy the experience in any boat. Good Luck
