Hiya,

The outboard will have an alternator so yes it will charge as you go across the lake. The only issue I could potentially see is you will be running down a starter battery which is designed for a quick drain and quick charge. Over the course of a couple of days, you might find your starting battery will not have enough to start your motor.

I'd suggest a dual purpose battery for your main motor..one that has starting capabilities, yet still has the deep cycle slow drain capacity. I run two Humminbirds, and my radio off the main battery, but I run a dual purpose just for that reason. Some might disagree with my thinking, though...
